Words for Yoga
Asana is the Sanskrit term for pose or physical posture.
Pranayama or breath control is essential to getting the maximum benefit of yoga.
Note: In most cases I am using the American term for the asana we will learn about during the workshops. You will also be given the Sanskrit terms during the workshops.
Class 1
Topic: We will discuss Yoga as a way to improve your physical body and your mind body connection
Breath: Deep Breathing and Breath of Victory
Focus: Basic class sequence and adjusting to your own level of practice
Asana: Child’s Pose, Cat/Cow, Mountain, Simple Twists, Relaxation
Class 2
Topic: Listening to you body and following your breath
Breath: Alternate Nostril Breathing
Focus: Basic class sequence and adjusting to your own level of practice
Asana: Plank Pose, Down Dog, Cobra Pose, Reclining Twist
Class 3
Topic: Building heat through movement and breathing (Vinyasa)
Breath: Three Part Breath
Focus: Breathing as you move
Asana: Simple Vinyasa sequence, Sun Breath, Low and High Lunge, Chair
Class 4
Topic: Strength
Breath: Breath of Joy
Focus: Standing Poses
Asana: Warrior II, Pyramid, Chaturanga
Class 5
Topic: Flowing through a practice
Breath: Kapalabhati
Focus: Vinyasa
Asana: Full Sun Salutation, Bridge
Class 6
Topic: Review and Completion
Breath: Deep Breathing
Focus: Reviewing all the poses covered in the past 5 weeks and practicing the Sun Salutation
Asana: Shavasana
